Downtown Imagery : Austin Wedding Photography bio picture

Welcome to Downtown Imagery!

Ciao Everyone!

My name is Eric Kotara. Welcome to my little corner of the Austin wedding photography world.  I am happy you're here!  Make yourself comfy, kick off your shoes, and have a look around.  It's a fun place for fun photography.

I have been photographing weddings for several years now and grow happier with my job with each one I photograph. My approach to my work is a stylish blend of photojournalism and classy portraiture with a crisp contemporary feel.

There's plenty to see here so have a good look around.  You can find pricing information and more about me and my business in the menu bar up top.  The best way to get a feel for my work is to make your way thru the posts to see a handful of portrait sessions and weddings.  If you want something more specific, hit up the categories on the menu bar.

A little something fun, and good too

This is a recent meme floating around the photography community and I thought I would jump on the band wagon and do a little something fun and interactive. It’s called Cans for Comments. Basically, I will donate a can a food to a local food bank for every comment made on the blog during this holiday season. To make it even more fun I will be giving away cans for all comments (including my own) already on the blog just to give us a bit more of a warm and cozy feeling :)

So yeah, it’s pretty neat and easy. Post a comment, share the love.

Cheers!

And I guess a picture, being a photography blog and all:

My new self (sort-of, I had a bit of help) portrait. Thanks Susie! With a new mugshot like this you have to expect a new about me page soon, which you should, cuz it’s coming.

My eyesight is not that bad; quite good actually :)

The downtown Austin engagement :: Jessica and Dave

Had a great time Sunday doing the downtown thang with Dave and Jessica. These guys are super fun and I anxiously look forward to their wedding (hint: swing dancing!!!!!). I really like it when the groom to be is into getting his picture taken and Dave was a champ. He stopped traffic, cleared out the floor of the Capitol, and scared away little girls getting into our shot; what more could you ask for. :) OK, in all fairness he very kindly asked the little girl if he could move her stroller and the little girl did what little girls do, get scared of the stranger. Totally worth it if you ask me. All in all, they were a fabulous and lively couple and I look forward to working with them again.

March 11, 2010 - 10:23 pm Dave McLaughln - Love the fisheye at the Capital, how did you get everyone to leave?

March 11, 2010 - 10:34 pm Eric - Hey Dave, I think we only had to ask a couple of people if they could let us get the shot. Guess we just got lucky.

Beth and Justin :: wedding :: part II

I thought I would post a few more from Beth and Justin’s wedding. It was such a great time that I really couldn’t get away without sharing a few more moments from the day. As it turns out, Beth and Justin’s reception hall, the Quihi Dance Hall, was just featured on the cover of Texas Monthly. Here’s a link to the online portion if your’re interested. How cool is that?

There are quite a few black and white images in this post. Sometimes it’s supposed to be that way :)

Enjoy!

Once again, you may need to avert your eyes if you have certain affections for particular sporting teams :) Rivalries will do this, you know…

I have this weird thing about decimated cake trays. I think this is my favorite one to date.

Quihi Gun Club/ Dance Hall

I love it when I catch someone’s flash. I especially love it when it totally rounds out the final image and really helps to tell the story. I just wish I had this ability on tap.
wedding reception fun

This was just moments before I plowed right into the line of dancers behind me, good times!

A few more from the drinking circle.
more hot damn

These two ladies were the most lively dancers of the night. Quite possibly the best dancers EVAR!!! I think the Hot Damn helped…

Hope you enjoyed them. It really was a fabulous night and there were many moments that still make me chuckle thinking about them. ¡Adios!

November 20, 2009 - 11:36 am Anne - The happy-accident flash picture is fantastic. I love those as well, if you ever figure out the super-power trick to harnessing those... pass it on. ;)

November 20, 2009 - 4:50 pm YoYo - I'm so drawn to the pitcure of the Dance Hall with its windows open. During the day, from the outside, it would seem like any old rural building in central Texas, but at night with windows open, it gives you a glimpse of its own personal history.

November 20, 2009 - 5:03 pm Eric - Thanks Anne and Collin. The dance hall was really something special. I must admit I had some reservations going into it, but I was more than pleasantly surprised :)
