Downtown Imagery : Austin Wedding Photography bio picture

Welcome to Downtown Imagery!

Ciao Everyone!

My name is Eric Kotara. Welcome to my little corner of the Austin wedding photography world.  I am happy you're here!  Make yourself comfy, kick off your shoes, and have a look around.  It's a fun place for fun photography.

I have been photographing weddings for several years now and grow happier with my job with each one I photograph. My approach to my work is a stylish blend of photojournalism and classy portraiture with a crisp contemporary feel.

There's plenty to see here so have a good look around.  You can find pricing information and more about me and my business in the menu bar up top.  The best way to get a feel for my work is to make your way thru the posts to see a handful of portrait sessions and weddings.  If you want something more specific, hit up the categories on the menu bar.

Beth and Justin :: Hotel Alsace

I had a lot of fun over the weekend photographing Beth and Justin’s wedding. The day could not have been prettier and we all had a grand ol’ time for this Hill Country Wedding. The ceremony was held at the Hotel Alsace in Castroville and the reception was held at the Quihi Dance Hall. The dance hall has the absolute best dance floor ever. You could moonwalk in hiking boots it was so nicely finished. In fact, on more than one occasion I think I did a half rock-star slide getting down to shoot something on the dance floor; it was AWESOME!

As always love was in the air. Beth and Justin have great families and great friends and I was very lucky to get to document the whole shindig. From killing a bottle of HOT DAMN to cutting a rug to Billie Jean, it was a wonderful night.

Cheers to you Beth and Justin, have fun in the rainforest :)

Stuck
Great story with this series. So Beth did her best to keep the flight path of her bouquet below the rafters, but she must have been really excited. In the end Beth’s sister fetched the prize, with the help of a baby’s toy bat. AWESOME!!!

a feat of engineering

oh oh oh oh I love Sangria wine

Parts of this next series look like they might have hurt a bit. You took it well Justin.

Austin Wedding Photography :: Mercury Hall

Mercury Hall is a great little venue in Austin just perfect for a small intimate wedding. It’s an old hall that was moved from Mercury TX to Austin in the late 20th Century and really has a great country feel even though it’s not far from the city center. With old stressed floors and some colorful stained glass windows, this venue really takes you back.

I was working 2nd for Mary Sledd, photographer extraordinaire! while shooting this wedding. It was a ton of fun. Mary was a joy to work for, everyone was in good spirits, the bride and groom were very much in love; all was right with the universe that day :)

Hope you enjoy!

If a tree falls? :: Why I love being an Austin photographer

If a tree falls in Austin, will it get decorated? Probably

This is a bit of a random post, but I guess that is keeping in line with the theme of the post.

I love random stuff like this, and Austin seems to be replete with great, colorful little happenings like this all over the place. This is one I’d like to share will all of my internet buddies.

It sits underneath the Mopac, in the creek bed that leads to the Town Lake Trail. I kept seeing it thru the trees while running and finally took my camera down there one day to spend a moment photographing it. Someone spent a ton of time doing this and I am glad they did. It is a great piece of random environmental art:

In other news, Canon released a redonculously priced new camera that I will never own, Apple released my next computer the 27″ iMac (swoon), and there’s a wedding from Mercury Hall in Austin coming up next on the blog; check back soon for it.

October 22, 2009 - 1:28 pm Ben Godkin - Great Find! It's things like this that re-kindle my love affair with Austin!

October 24, 2009 - 11:56 am Eric - Thanks Ben, it's true, things like this will keep one coming back for more. I think my love affair with Austin will be a long monogamous one :)

October 27, 2009 - 4:45 pm YoYo - Have you done a post on the cathedral of junk yet?

October 28, 2009 - 8:08 am Eric - Not yet... Hoping I get to do a session there first rather than just post pictures of the place. Maybe Susie and I should take the dress down there :)
