I had the wonderful pleasure of photographing Dave and Jessica’s wedding in Austin this past Saturday at the Vista on Seward Hill. We had a lovely time and I can’t wait to show you all much more imagery from this wonderful day. For today’s sneak peek I am showing two pictures from the first dance. Dancing was a big part of the reception. Many of those in attendance were quite well versed in swing dancing, including the bride and groom. With that in mind I am showing a bit of the dancing fun first. More to come soon.

Sneak Peek :: Hill Country Wedding

I had the pleasure of working with two very wonderful people this weekend. This great looking and über friendly couple were married at the Mandola Estate Winery just west of Austin proper in Driftwood Texas. I will be posting a lot more work from this wedding soon but just wanted to share this one image with you all first as it was one of my favorites from the evening. During the first dance, once I had made a number of fully lit images, I turned off one of my flashes to have some fun. It seems like the moment, the angle, the timing and the light all came together to make something really wonderful. More to come from this great wedding tomorrow. Peace.

Meiling and Paul :: Wedding :: Austin

There is an old saying that in Texas if you don’t like the weather just wait 20 minutes. It’s not a lie.

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Meiling and Paul’s wedding at their Austin home on one of the loveliest days that could grace a February. Their wedding day originally had rain in the forecast. It was cloudy and wet leading up to Sunday. It was even rainy Sunday morning. And then, just like that, the clouds broke and the day truly became the perfect day for a wedding. Two days later, it was frozen and snowing How’s that for a window of opportunity?

It was a very relaxed and comfortable wedding and party. Everyone was in great spirits and happy the sun was out. Good drinks, good friends, and some delicious pastries made for a fabulous time.

Enjoy the pictures. And special thanks to my second photographer and assistant for the day, Kristi Wright!

They topped their cupcakes with custom screen printed cookies! Really neat.

These were Delicious!!!!

The downtown Austin engagement :: Jessica and Dave

Had a great time Sunday doing the downtown thang with Dave and Jessica. These guys are super fun and I anxiously look forward to their wedding (hint: swing dancing!!!!!). I really like it when the groom to be is into getting his picture taken and Dave was a champ. He stopped traffic, cleared out the floor of the Capitol, and scared away little girls getting into our shot; what more could you ask for. OK, in all fairness he very kindly asked the little girl if he could move her stroller and the little girl did what little girls do, get scared of the stranger. Totally worth it if you ask me. All in all, they were a fabulous and lively couple and I look forward to working with them again.

Austin Wedding Photography :: Mercury Hall

Mercury Hall is a great little venue in Austin just perfect for a small intimate wedding. It’s an old hall that was moved from Mercury TX to Austin in the late 20th Century and really has a great country feel even though it’s not far from the city center. With old stressed floors and some colorful stained glass windows, this venue really takes you back.

I was working 2nd for Mary Sledd, photographer extraordinaire! while shooting this wedding. It was a ton of fun. Mary was a joy to work for, everyone was in good spirits, the bride and groom were very much in love; all was right with the universe that day

They had this great cover band that really left me breathless. RadioHead covers as waltzes, YEAH!!!!

They did a good job of keeping the dance floor full.

If a tree falls? :: Why I love being an Austin photographer

If a tree falls in Austin, will it get decorated? Probably

This is a bit of a random post, but I guess that is keeping in line with the theme of the post.

I love random stuff like this, and Austin seems to be replete with great, colorful little happenings like this all over the place. This is one I’d like to share will all of my internet buddies.

It sits underneath the Mopac, in the creek bed that leads to the Town Lake Trail. I kept seeing it thru the trees while running and finally took my camera down there one day to spend a moment photographing it. Someone spent a ton of time doing this and I am glad they did. It is a great piece of random environmental art:

In other news, Canon released a redonculously priced new camera that I will never own, Apple released my next computer the 27″ iMac (swoon), and there’s a wedding from Mercury Hall in Austin coming up next on the blog; check back soon for it.

Mea Culpa Austin

You can’t post a picture of an Aggie Groom’s Cake on an Austin photography blog without bringing the planets back into alignment. So, a bit of some UT themed material, perhaps? OK!

I did a wedding at a country club that had its own resident longhorn (in the background) and longhorn friend. Shooting this beautiful bovine was obligatory, and with a wide-angle lens was down right mandatory. There is this great story tied to this shot and if we ever meet in person I will be glad to tell it. In short, it involved another photographer trying to imitate me and a resultant very gooey lens The longhorn in the background was somewhat shy, so no super close shots of that guy.

This was the result of a long night alone while my wife was on call at the hospital, a lot of light, some incense, beers, confused cats, and a bit of photoshop. Done as a gift for a friend that takes his college football VERY seriously. For Sale, too.
